The beautiful multi-arts exhibition'East Coast Encounter' is coming to the Australian National Maritime Museum from 9 May.
 
This exhibition explores the 1770 encounter of Lt James Cook and his crew with Aboriginal people and includes works by Gail Mabo, Neil Murray and Reg Mombassa.

The newest exhibition to Museum of Sydney ‘Celestial City: Sydney’s Chinese Story’ was officially launched by Premier Barry O’Farrell this morning.
 
Celestial City: Sydney’s Chinese Story opens to the public on Saturday with a day of festivities including curator talks, and demonstrations of Chinese painting and lion dancing.

On this day in 1932 the Sydney Harbour Bridge was first opened to the public!

Our beloved Harbour Bridge has since become one of our most recognisable icons.

People travel from all over the world to view our bridge and our spectacular harbour.

Some fun facts :-

1. The Largest rivet weighed 3.5 kilograms and was 395mm long2. Total weight of steel work = 52,800 tonnes 3. 272,000 litres of paint were required to give the Bridge its initial three coats

Join Australian National Maritime Museum this Sunday 16th March to hear author Chris Frame talk about his book 'Evolution of the Transatlantic Liner'.

Chris will explore the evolution of ocean liners, including their increase in size, the race for supremacy on the North Atlantic run, changes during both world wars, the impact of the jet aircraft on ships and the birth of modern-day cruising.

The talk concludes with an overview of the building of the Queen Mary 2, the world's largest ocean liner.
