When I decided to buy an opal for my mother as a souvenir from my Australia journey, at first I had no idea where to begin. I thought Paddys markets would be a good and cheap opportunity to find a nice stone, but that was very disappointing. Although, the stand where they've been sold seemed serious, I didn't have a good experience, since the staff wasn't really friendly and not helpful at all. As I had no idea of Opal prices and I didn't want to rush, I did some research online to find out more about opals (what makes them valuable etc) to avoid getting scammed and I also found the Australian Opal Cutters Factory and 2 other sellers.
When I went to the building of the Australian Opal Cutters Factory and upstairs, I didn't know exactly what to think, it didn't seem too reliable from the beginning - it took me a while that these security doors are there because of the valuable stones and pearls. Anyway, they allocated me a sales person (unfortunately, I can't remember her name) who was exceptionally friendly and very, very helpful! She explained me in great detail everything I wanted to know and looked with me through various catalogues to find the perfect opal for my mother. We've been chatting a lot out of which we could make a beautiful pendant for a necklace and how this one could look like (I will do it in Austria since I leave tomorrow) etc.
After all, I didn't only have a great shopping experience, they also had a 50% off sale and I got pear earrings as a little present. I can 100% recommend this shop to anybody!! I was so lucky to find it!
