Taronga Zoo's New Baby Elephant - Luk Chai ...
This is Luk Chai – Taronga Zoo’s super cute new baby elephant. Weighing in at 96 kilos at birth last July, Luk Chai is attracting a lot of attention and is proving to be very popular with visitors to the Zoo. The elephant keepers continue to be impressed by how adventurous he is – developing his climbing techniques while exploring the Wild Asia exhibit, and often following the herd into the moat and doing a bit of dogpaddling even though his feet don’t yet quite reach the bottom. You will usually find Luk Chai playing outside between 9.00 and 10.30am, and again after 11.30am daily. And What’s On in Sydney readers will save 15% on Zoo entry with this exclusive voucher.

There are morning and afternoon cruises from Darling Harbour and Circular Quay every day. Explorer - True Blue Cruises' Newest Vessel ...
One of the oldest whale-watching operators has added a new vessel to their fleet for 2009. True Blue Cruises’ triple-decked Explorer was purpose-built for whale and dolphin watching. Her low centre of gravity means she is very stable, and she features both indoor and outdoor viewing areas for maximum passenger comfort in all conditions. The lower foredeck is particularly popular, as you are only 1.5m away from the action. True Blue operate morning and afternoon cruises from Darling Harbour every day, and you’ll get 20% off if you mention What’s On in Sydney. Bookings are on 1800 309 672.

Ocean Dreaming II - Bass & Flinders New Vessel ...
The newest of the whale watching vessels is Bass & Flinders Ocean Dreaming II. Launched just last March, Ocean Dreaming 11 has full walk-around decks to allow front-row viewing for everyone. This state-of-the-art vessel also features active ride control – giving a 60% reduction in motion on board – and Searchlight sonar to locate the whales as quickly as possible. She is also very fast, with a top speed of 33 knots – which means less time travelling and more time whale-watching. Taronga Zoo's New Roar and Snore ...
Imagine waking up to this view accompanied by the growls and roars of hundreds of exotic animals as they greet the day. It’s all part of Taronga Zoo’s new Roar and Snore overnight accommodation package. The previous evening you would have enjoyed a gourmet buffet dinner followed by a two-hour night zoo safari before settling into one of these deluxe safari-style tents. And today, after a delicious continental breakfast, you’ll have the chance to do a couple of behind the scenes tours before the Zoo opens to the general public. Sydney Symphony ...
“There is something about Vladimir Askenazy’s leadership that brings out the best in the Sydney Symphony” says Peter McCallum of The Sydney Morning Herald. Askenazy’s performances with the Symphony over many years – notably a Sibelius Festival in 2004, a Rachmaninov Festival in 2007 and an Elgar Festival in 2008 – all played to packed houses and high critical acclaim. Now the people of Sydney are to have the benefit of that artistic skill and leadership on a more permanent basis, as Ashkenazy has accepted the position of Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor to the Sydney Symphony for the next four years. To celebrate his arrival, we’ve arranged for What’s On in Sydney readers to save $10 off a range of selected concerts this season. Just phone the Sydney Symphony Box Office on 8215 4600 between 9am – 5pm Mon – Fri and quote #1760.

See the Dugongs at Mermaid Lagoon at the Sydney Aquarium ...
Legend has it that old-time sailors and pirates thought they’d discovered mermaids. They turned out to be dugongs, one of the most mystifying sea creatures you’ll ever see. Now you can check out the myth for yourself. There are only five dugongs on exhibit anywhere in the world, and two of them have landed right here in Sydney at the new Mermaid Lagoon at Sydney Aquarium. Mermaid Lagoon is highly entertaining and educational, and it’s just one of the many crowd-pleasers at Sydney Aquarium.
